Abrasion Resistant Steel Plates – NM 400 / NM 450 / NM 500

Premium-grade wear-resistant steel plates NM 400, NM 450, and NM 500 are made to resist severe impact and abrasion in demanding industrial settings. The “NM” series represents “Nai Mo” (耐磨), which translates as “wear resistance” in Chinese. These plates are specifically designed to retain formability and weldability while providing a longer service life under demanding working circumstances. In fields where great hardness and durability are crucial, like mining, construction, cement, earthmoving, recycling, and material handling, these grades are commonly used.

Grades and Characteristics:

Grade Typical Hardness (HBW) Wear Resistance Impact Toughness Key Applications
NM 400 ~400 HB Excellent Excellent Mining machinery, liners, truck bodies
NM 450 ~450 HB Superior Very Good Buckets, crushers, hoppers
NM 500 ~500 HB Extreme Moderate to Good Wear plates, excavator parts, blades

Key Features:

  • High resistance to abrasion and impact

  • Consistent hardness across the plate surface

  • Good formability and machinability

  • Weldable with appropriate preheating and filler materials

  • Extended lifespan, reduced downtime and replacement cost

Mechanical Properties:

  • Hardness Range:

    • NM 400: 360–430 HB

    • NM 450: 420–480 HB

    • NM 500: 470–530 HB

  • Tensile Strength: 1250–1700 MPa (grade-dependent)

  • Yield Strength: ~1000–1400 MPa

  • Elongation: 8–14%

  • Density: ~7.85 g/cm³

Applications:

  • Dump truck liners, side walls, and floor plates

  • Conveyor systems and feeder plates

  • Bulldozer blades, bucket wear strips

  • Industrial hoppers, crushers, and chutes

  • Earthmoving and road-building equipment

  • Screens, grizzly bars, and wear paddles

Workability:

  • Weldability: Requires proper preheating and suitable electrodes for thick sections

  • Formability: Good in thinner plates; bending radius depends on grade and thickness

  • Machining: Possible with hard-metal tools; slower feed recommended for high hardness grades

Available Sizes:

  • Thickness: 6 mm to 100 mm

  • Width: Up to 2500 mm

  • Length: Up to 12000 mm

  • Custom dimensions and profiles available on request
