EN31 Alloy Steel – Premium-Grade Wear-Resistant Steel
EN31 is a high-carbon, high-strength alloy steel known for its exceptional toughness, ductility, and wear resistance. Enriched with chromium, nickel, and molybdenum, EN31 undergoes hardening and tempering prior to delivery, making it a preferred choice for parts that demand superior tensile strength and shock resistance. As a trusted
C45 carbon steel supplier, we also stock and supply EN31 alloy steel for industries requiring premium-grade wear-resistant materials.
Its strong internal structure and high surface hardness ensure reliable performance under heavy stress, even in low-temperature conditions, while also maintaining stability in applications involving elevated heat.

Heat Treatment of EN31
EN31 requires careful heat treatment depending on the component’s size and application. Typical process:
- Tempering Temperature: 150°C to 300°C, based on desired mechanical properties.
- Soaking Time: Minimum 1 hour per 25mm of section thickness.
- Cooling: Controlled air cooling is preferred post-tempering for uniform hardness.
Forging Characteristics
- Forging Temperature Range: 1000°C to 1050°C
- Ensure the material is heated thoroughly and avoid forging below 850°C.
- After forging, cool slowly in a furnace to minimise internal stresses and cracking.
